“Welcome to the real world!” as what our elders say right after we graduate. Yes, being a college student can be tough and depressing, but facing a more diverse world in the adulting stage after college is quite mind blowing.
“I don’t wanna go to school anymore. I’ll just get a job tomorrow” is probably your line when you feel hopeless about passing an exam which covers lessons that weren’t even discussed by your prof. However, having a job and all those responsibilities could make you take that back and say, “Stop! Can I go back to being child again?” *Sigh*
You might have thought that life would be much easier after you got your college diploma, right? That you will only get a job, get your salary, then visit all the places you want to visit and buy all your wants. Yes, that can be a phase, but life is more complicated than that. So, it is really important that you know yourself as you become independent and get the life you have been praying since you were a kiddo.
We probably don’t know how to break this to you gently, but living in the “real world” might get you caught being lost again. It can be too much to handle, especially if you’re just starting your journey.
But, hang on there! Keep reading as we give you this cheat sheet to help you with your beginner demise.
7 Adulting Fundamentals:
An Excellent CV Can Go a Long Way
Your internship probably made you stressed about having a CV, but you have a lot of angels online to help you create one. From your internship season until the end of your job hunting, your curriculum vitae should always be updated.
You can humbly brag about those big and little achievements and credentials you have. Just remember to be smart about it. You won’t put everything if it is not related to the job you’re seeking. So, plan the content of your CV now and make that dream job happen!
Collect Those Government IDs Now!
Your dilemma of getting a valid ID is they ask you for another valid ID! You probably know that meme.
Kidding aside, to become a certified Filipino citizen, a valid one is not your student ID. In case you missed it, Google works and some government sites already have instructions uploaded online for you to immediately see.
Remember to prepare all your requirements beforehand because some officers are very strict about those documents. Some of the government IDs you can get are Postal ID, Tax Identification Number (BIR TIN), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID, and Voter’s ID.
Just be patient in getting all those supporting documents and papers. You will eventually get all those valid IDs and will be a few steps away to survive adulting.
Get a UMID ID
The UMID or Unified Multi-Purpose ID is called the “Mother of all IDs” in the Philippines. It’s a 4-in-1 identification card which has your Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG Fund.
There is no online application for this one, therefore you have to go to the nearest SSS or GSIS office near you that has ID Data Capture.
Although, you must be contributing to SSS or GSIS for at least a month now to have the UMID ID. When you are ready to have yours, bring a valid ID and its photocopy. After that, the process will last from 7 to 20 working days, before you will be able to get your multi-purpose ID.
Apply Your Passport Now (Or Renew It If It’s Already Invalid)!
Isn’t it great that you have 10 years now before you renew your passport? The validity is now already prolonged. The Department of Foreign Affairs even let us have the registration, so what are you waiting for now?
Hurry! set your appointment in their online site now. They are always fully booked, so you should be keen in setting yours.
Again, supporting documents are very important! Don’t waste your time and slot just because of one document you missed to bring with you.
Get Your NBI Clearance Processed
This is probably the Government ID you can get easily. Just apply it online and show the schedule you have picked. It is called clearance because you have to have a clear criminal records. Remember that an NBI clearance is a yearly renewal.
You may now go to the NBI Clearance application online and fill out all the fields that needs your personal information.
Adulting Means Pay the Bills
Thank all the great developers that the new generation can now pay bills online. Pero kung hindi mo pa alam kung paano, okay lang yan! All you have to do is get the billing statement and go to the nearest branch of the company, payment center, a local bank, or online (but with additional fee).
You can pay utility bills usually at business center of malls or commercial areas. Banks also offer over-the-counter bill, so you may try asking those banks near you too.
Even on your first job, you should already save money from your first salaries.
It’s up to you whether you want a saving account or just keep it in your cabinet, the important thing is that you are saving money. You are adulting!
What is good about having your money in the bank is that it is more secure and you can earn a good amount of interest in the long run. Choose a bank that can accommodate all your necessities.
Yes it is amazing to be living your life to the fullest and live everyday like it is your last day on Earth. However, it’s devastating when something came up and you don’t have any money to use. You should now be responsible in spending your money.
It is difficult to pass the adulting stage, but do it one step at a time! We will surely get there and achieve the life we’ve been dreaming since we were little kids. We just have to be patient and courageous, because life can be cruel in so many times. Just keep the faith. You will be successful in His perfect time.
