The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday expressed alarm over the surge of novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in Cebu City. DILG Secretary Eduardo Año noted the agency is closely monitoring Cebu City and the adjacent areas due to the sudden rise of COVID-19 cases in the last seven days.
Año noted that National Task Force Chief Implementor against COVID-19 Carlito Galvez Jr. will proceed to Cebu on June 11 to meet with the local officials and the regional Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to address the issue. Earlier, Año said that there is a 50/50 chance that Metro Manila will be placed under the more relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) after June 15 or remain under GCQ.
He said the IATF will meet to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic concerns in the region.
From the meeting, the IATF will make a recommendation on what to implement after June 15. The Cordillera Administrative Region, Regions I (except Pangasinan), IV-B, V, VI, VIII, IX (except Zamboanga City), X, XI (except Davao City) and XII, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will be under MGCQ until next week.
