President Rodrigo Duterte revealed another reason why he fired Vice President Leni Robredo from her drug czar post, saying he is afraid the latter might screw things up.
“Ang kinatatakutan ko magkalat siya. Kaya ako takot,” Duterte said during an interview on GMA 7’s morning newscast show Unang Hirit on Monday.
“The more that she stays with the ICAD (Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs), the more that she would create issues and the more that the people will be like wondering, ‘Ano bang totoo dito?’” he continued.
Also, the President mentioned he is afraid to let Robredo handle the anti-drug campaign because she has no knowledge about this.
“Kaya ako takot kasi wala talaga siyang alam,” Duterte said.
On November 24, he dismissed Robredo as the ICAD co-chair, less than a month after she accepted the President’s appointment.
Out of ‘exasperation’
Duterte also said he designated the Vice President because she kept on pointing out ways to supervise the government’s war on drugs.
“Leni keeps on harping on so many things — na it has not succeeded, eh hindi namin masabi sa kanya kung bakit eh so sabi ko ‘Why don’t you just join us?’ Actually it’s an exasperation thing for me. Sabi ko, ‘eh di ikaw sumali ka na para malaman mo,” he said.
Earlier, Duterte said he removed Robredo from the post in response to her taunt to just fire her if he does not want her in the position.
On the other hand, Malacañang said her dismissal was the President’s response to Liberal Party’s chair Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who said Malacañang should discharge the Vice President instead of insulting her.
In addition, Robredo’s move to meet different groups critical of his drug war was not favorable for him, thus losing his trust.
