Eddie Garcia still received a Best Actor Award from Gawad Urian despite being in a “Do Not Resuscitate” (DNR) status.
On Tuesday, June 18, the veteran actor won the acting prize for his role in a military-themed film entitled “ML”. This is his third award from the Gawad Urian after winning the same title in 2000 for the movie “Deathrow” and obtaining the Lifetime Achievement Award six years later.
Benedict Mique, the maker of the movie “ML”, brought the award to the Makati Medical Center. He also shared a photo on his Facebook account showing Garcia’s hand touching the trophy, and Mique captioned it with: “Congrats Tito Eddie, we love you.”
During the 2019 Gawad Urian ceremony, the director accepted the award in behalf of Garcia. The director became emotional as soon as started speaking, and with a shaky voice he read the message from the actor’s family.
He also extended his gratitude to Garica and acknowledged that his films wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for his generosity, love and professionalism. Towards the end of his speech, he added that Garcia should be granted the National Artist Award for serving the entertainment industry for 70 years.
So far, the actor is still in comatose since June 8 after the incident that happened while he taping for a GMA show. Through Dr. Tony Rebosa, the family of Eddie Garcia also requests fans to avoid spreading false news regarding the actor’s condition.
