As expected, the mighty Serbians has beaten the Philippines’ basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, with 126-67 final score in the 2019 FIBA World Cup at the Foshan GBA International Sports Cultural in China, yesterday night.
However, it was not a total defeat for the team as they have achieved their goal to play better than their sloppy performance during their game against Italy, signalling their Gilas “puso” once again.
Gilas showed their more aggressive offense regardless of the Serbians’ undeniable strength in terms of size and height and doubled their work on the defense side.
With Paul Lee, Andray Blatche, and Troy Rosario on the scoring end, the Philippines’ team even led 9-7 during the start of the game.
Nonetheless, the Serbian players were unstoppable.
“Serbia’s just too big, too good. I think they really have a good chance against the US and other top teams,” Gilas coach Yeng Guiao said.
“We just tried to keep the game close as long as we can but apparently, we can’t,” he added.
Nikola Jokić, alongside other giants Nikola Milutinov and Miroslav Raduljica, gained control in an 18-2 counter for a 25-11 tear that determined that where the game progressed.
With 0 wins and 2 loses, Gilas did not make it to the second round but still has the chance to finish third in Group D in case it wins against fellow unsuccessful team, Angola, on September 4.
