Decide what you want to do and where you want to go


Ask yourself what you exactly want to do: relax? explore? There are various places you can go to unwind, but that will depend on what kind of vacation you desire. 

You don’t have to go to the beach or climb mountains if you don’t want. Being surrounded with amazing views is great, but if it’s not your forte, then don’t. You might just end up feeling burdened rather than achieving the rest you’re longing for.  

Don’t go to places just for the sake of adding another aesthetic photos in your Instagram. Remember, you have to prioritize what you would experience during your break than thinking of what others have to see. 

Live in the moment


Free days or time off from work may be limited depending on the job you have. And for sure, you would not want to waste those kind of days as they come rarely. Therefore, being in the moment is ‘key’ to making your vacation one for the books. 

Don’t run to your next activities over and over again while you’re still in a present one. And as much as possible, you may turn your phone off or at least avoid taking a glance of it if it’s really not that big of a deal. Don’t feel guilty about not answering it when someone calls; they should understand it’s your vacation. 

Pack just enough


Although packing is necessarily just toiletries and clothes, still there’s no need for you to take stuff that will only add weight to your luggage. Just pack things that you think you will really need in your vacation and will help you enjoy it. 

Bring the things you use regularly in your backpack so you won’t have a hard time picking looking for them in the luggage. It’s also important to have some extra batteries and the equipment necessary for them to function throughout the vacation.

Anticipate that things will not always go the way you want they to


Let’s be realistic here. Not everything we plan will always turn out the way we want them to. There could be times when the world will not be on our side (not that we want them ‘cause, never) so we have to expect some unfavorable events while on a vacation. 

But in case such a thing happens, we still have the choice to move on and enjoy. After all, we left to de-stress. Plus, be spontaneous. You won’t lose anything by trying something new. 

Get ready for some vacation hangover


Cliche yes, but all good things come to an end. And in this case, it has to end as you have to go back to your daily grind and live just like before. It’s understandable to have a vacation hangover especially if you really had the best moments there. But according to Dr. Raphael Inocencio of the Managing Partner and Consultant Psychologist at Better Steps Psychology, “If a person dreads going back to their normal life, the question shouldn’t be, ‘Why does this vacation have to end?’ It should be, ‘Why do you dislike your current situation so much?’ Perhaps this ‘vacation hangover’ is more about your current situation than missing the vacation itself.”
