“Ipinaglaban ko siya,” were the words of Liza Soberano upon revealing that she went against her father’s wishes for the first time when she entered a relationship with her boyfriend Enrique Gil.
Soberano admitted that on a press conference for her new primetime series with Gil, “Make it With You.”
The onscreen partnership of the two made it to real life during the filming of the breakthrough drama, “Forevermore” in 2014.
The beginning of their romance came when the two were asked what they considered to be the “craziest” thing they did to “make it with each other” after the title of the series.
“I think the craziest thing I wouldn’t have expected myself to do is… Siyempre, 17 lang ako noong naging kami, so ipinaglaban ko ‘yung relationship namin,” Soberano said, prompting shrieks from fans present in the media launch.
“Kasi bawal pa ako magka-boyfriend noon, kaya lang matigas ‘yung ulo ko,” she added, laughing.
Soberano remembered having a conversation with her dad, John Castillo Soberano, where she was able to convince him to support the relationship she has with Gil.
“Sabi ko sa daddy ko: ‘Masaya ako. Kung gusto mo ako maging masaya, papayagan mo ako.’”
Wedding bells ringing?
Half a decade ago, Soberano held on to that source of happiness — in October 2019, they celebrated their fifth anniversary. The actress believes that her first relationship will be her last one, as she and Gil confirmed that they talked about marriage already.
“Yes, po, I really believe so, 100%, in my heart,” Gil said when asked whether he sees himself with Soberano at the altar.
Soberano said that she wouldn’t think twice about saying “yes” to Gil’s formal proposal.
“Siyempre, you can never say that you’re fully ready or prepared for that big question, pero, no doubt, I will say ‘yes,’” Liza said without hesitation.
