A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shakens Surigao del Sur early Thursday morning. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) confirmed this in an intereview.
PHIVOLCS says the earthquake is an aftershock of the magnitude 5.7 quake that hit the same epicenter last Sept. 21. Bayabas felt Intensity 4, or “moderately strong”. Meanwhile, Surigao City felt Intensity 1, characterized by scarcely perceptible shaking.
The tectonic quake struck 63 kilometers northeast of the municipality of Bayabas at 6:10 a.m and also with a depth of 15 kilometers. As of today, there were no recorded damages and expected aftershocks from the tremor.
This is a developing story.
