Mayor Isagani Bolompo of Lian, Batangas, died on Saturday evening, October 24. This is after testing positive for the coronavirus.
He was 68 years old.
Lian police said he was rushed to the Western Medical Center on October 17 and was later transferred to the Lung Center of the Philippines.
In a post on the Facebook page of the municipality of Lian on Sunday, October 25, the local government unit said it “lost a great leader who never stopped thinking about the welfare of his constituents even [in] the very last hours of his life.”
Before serving as mayor, Bolompo worked as provincial health officer.
Data from the Department of Health show 8,988 coronavirus cases have been recorded in Batangas as of October 24. Out of this number, 1,379 are active.
