A US high school student won a contest for a drug awareness ad featuring the cover of Moira dela Torre, “You Are My Sunshine.”
The video entitled “Sunshine” features a heartbreaking story of a mother who lost her daughter due to drug overdose. It is a huge manifestation that illegal drugs can shatter someone’s life. The video ends with a message: “Drugs take away your sunshine.”
The creator of the video from California’s El Modena High School won the contest organized by Elks — the largest volunteer drug awareness program in the United States.
It was recognized last August as the “Best High School Video Public Service Announcement.”
From then on, the US government used it in a collab video which features previous addicts recovering and now sharing their inspiring stories.
According to the organizer, the annual contest aims to recognize the most creative young students of the US to help them in their drive to eliminate illegal drugs in the country.
Moira Dela Torre’s “You Are My Sunshine” cover, was released in 2018 as part of the soundtrack of the movie, “Meet Me in St. Gallen,” starring Carlo Aquino and Bela Padilla.
