The National Capital Region (NCR) remains the epicenter of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) said. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire made the pronouncement amid the rising number of cases in Cebu City. “A lot of our experts are saying that NCR is still the epicenter and we are seeing hotspots or rising cases in other areas of the country,” Vergeire told reporters on Tuesday.
“We try to analyze again after maybe two weeks but for now, it is still NCR… and Cebu is just one of those hotspots or areas of specific focus now for DOH,” she added. Recently, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said that Cebu City is “more likely” the new epicenter of COVID-19 cases in the country. Emerging hotspots in Mindanao. Vergeire, meanwhile, said that they are currently monitoring several areas in Mindanao which are now being observed as “emerging hotspots” for COVID-19 cases. The areas are Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental.
