MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang shortens work hours in the executive branch on September 28. This is to allow employees celebrate the “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day” (KPM) with their families.
Work hours will be suspended by 3:30 p.m., according to a memorandum circular issued by Exec. Sec. Salvador Medialdea. Other government branches and private sectors are also encouraged to do the same. Agencies who provide performance of basic health, or any vital services are exempted.
According to studies, family meal time doesn’t only affect psychological behaviours. It also helps improve the health of family members. Adolescents and young adults were observed to eat healthier food during family meals. Also, the Department of Interior and Local Government believes that KPM aims to encourage parents to frequently eat dinner with their children and be involved in their lives.
