Opposition Senator Francis ‘’Kiko’’ N. Pangilinan today said the imposition by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) of taxes on online sellers amid the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, joblessness, and poverty is’’ insensitive, unjust, and heartless.’’ The government should first find ways of helping people before thinking of collecting taxes from the small enterprises of online sellers. Why should they impose taxes on people having honest businesses in the middle of the pandemic?. Government, according to Pangilinan, should instead train its sights on smugglers and big tax evaders such as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) that have unpaid taxes amounting to P50 billion.
