Police are now eyeing the husband of the Chinese woman who was reportedly abducted in Makati City as a person of interest in the incident.
Maj. Gideon Ines Jr., Makati City Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief, on Wednesday said Zhou Mei’s husband, Chen Tangbin, has given his statement to the officials yesterday, noting there were “inconsistencies” in it.
“Maraming kasinungalingan yung nakukuha natin sa asawa [at] mga inconsistencies na pinangyarihan ng insidente,” Ines said.
Also, police mentioned that Chen’s statement on the documents left by Zhou is questionable.
According to Ines, Chen claimed his wife was bringing the documents with her. However, in the viral video clip, Zhou was not carrying any envelope or bag.
“Kineclaim niya yung parang ebidensya, tinanong namin ‘kung saan galing, nung tanong bakit andito yung deed of sale na may briefcase?’ sabi, dala ng asawa daw niya. Nung video wala naman hawak yung asawa niya,” the chief said.
“Isa pang clue, bakit hawak hawak ng asawa niya yun yung deed of sale ano naman kinalaman nung asawa dun?” Ines added.
Moreover, he said the briefcase contained a driver’s license, passports, and an unsigned deed of sale with the name of a certain Jian Wei Zhu.
The authorities were as well doubtful of Chen’s silence when they asked him about the identity of the suspects who seized his wife.
“Silent siya doon. Tinatanong din natin ‘yan kung maaaring kilala mo ba kung sino ang kumuha [Kay Zhou] kasi casually lumapit naman ‘yung babae sa van bago siya nakuha then pagsakay niya parang gulat ‘yung babae na siya’y hinila na,” Ines said.
Another person of interest
Likewise, investigators are investigating the possible involvement of “Zhu” in the Chinese woman’s abduction.
Ines said that Zhu is a vendee as indicated in the unsigned deed of sale that was recovered from the scene.
“Ang profile kasi nitong victim is a manager of an offline gaming company and then meron din siyang boss, ‘yun ‘yung may capability na magbibigay talaga,” he said.
The chief further revealed that Zhu is Chen’s friend.
“‘Yung kaibigan niya [Chen] na bibili ng sasakyan. May nakuha nalaglag sa van sa pinangyarihan, ‘yun [Zhu] yung person of interest,” Ines said.
“Maaaring pina-kidnap niya sa kaniyang mga kaibigan at hihingan ng pera ‘yung kaniyang boss. Kasi kikidnapin mo ‘yung biktima eh wala namang capability ‘yan para makapagbigay,” he speculated.
