Rey Valera admitted that he is not moved with the life stories of contestants

Rey Valera admitted that he is not moved by the life stories of contestants. He would objectively judge a singer based on skills, not on stories.

Nine singers are currently battling it out to become the fourth grand champion of “Tawag ng Tanghalan.” It is a segment of ABS-CBN’s noontime program “It’s Showtime!”. The competition for the grand finals, which began last Monday, will run up to Feb. 6. Judges headed by Rey Valera brace themselves as the final battle approaches.

The latest “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion will win P1 million, a brand new house and lot from Lessandra worth P2 million, a recording contract with Star Music, a management contract with Star Magic, and a special trophy designed by Toym Imao. “Our job is to be critical of each of the contestant’s performances. What I do is I give my score before listening to their interviews with the hosts. That way, I won’t get so affected by their life stories.” Rey Valera, jury head, said during a recent virtual media conference.
