Filipino surfer Roger Casugay opted to rescue his fellow SEA Games competitor from Indonesia despite the race of winning a gold medal.

On Friday, 2019 SEA Games featured a Facebook post of a netizen named Jefferson Ganuelas, wherein it shows the heroic deed of Casugay during the competition held in La Union. 

According to Ganuelas’ post, Nurhidayat’s leash was detached from the surfboard. Then, here comes the Filipino surfer to rescue his opponent as big waves come hitting him.

“The #seagames2019 surfing is on hold. Indonesian longboard sensation @mencosss broke his leash and swept away and being pounded by triple overhead bomb waves at monaliza pt. Local surfer @roger_casugay rescued him not minding the ongoing race for gold medal,” stated in the caption.

The surfing competition is on hold as of the moment, the 2019 SEA Games official Facebook page announced.
