Manila court convicted Aegis Juris fratman, John Paul Solano, for obstruction of justice regarding the fatal hazing of the University of Santo Tomas student Horacio “Atio” Castillo III in 2017.

June 17, the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 14 sentenced Solano to 2 years and 4 months up to 4 years and  2 months in prison.

However, Judge Carolina Esguerra acquitted the fraternity member of perjury charges.

The Fatal Hazing in 2017

Solano was the one who brought Castillo’s beaten body to the hospital in September 2017.

The Aegis Juris Alumna brought Atio to the Chinese General Hospital to save him but eventually died.

Solano reported the death to the police but lied and told the authorities that he was just a stranger who found the victim’s body by the roadside.

He has enjoyed freedom because perjury and obstruction of justice charges are bailable.

Nevertheless, the court also convicted 10 other fraternity brothers for imprisonment after a series of investigation and trial.
