Mother of ‘King of Talk’ Boy Abunda, Licerna “Lesing” Romerica Abunda, has passed away at the age of 90.
Abunda’s sister, Eastern Samar representative Maria Fe Abunda, confirmed the news on Monday through a Facebook post written in Waray.
Maria Fe said their mother died on December 1, Sunday.
The post added details of funeral mass that will start on Monday, 12 midnight, at the Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City.
During her time, Nanay Lesing became a school teacher, a councilor in Borongan from 1995 to 2004, and a vice mayor in 2004.
Last October, in a special episode of “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” Tito Boy became emotional as he talked about his mother.
He mentioned being forever grateful to her, who always supported and believed in him.
Also, in a separate interview on his Saturday late night show “The Bottomline,” Abunda confirmed that his was in the hospital for several weeks.
“She’s the center of my life and I hope she’s not suffering. ‘Yun lang naman ang gusto ko sa nanay. She’s turning 91 in January, huwag lang masaktan,” he said.
“I am grateful in both joy and pain. Grateful because kahit nasasaktan ako, I’m being given the chance by God to be the best mother to my mother and I’m being able to say thank you to her,” the veteran host added.
Known to have a really close relationship with his mother, Abunda admitted not knowing how to live his life in the absence of his mother.
“I will be honest, I don’t know how I’m going to live my life without the presence of my mother. Pero katulad ng maraming sugal sa buhay ko, susuungin ko, because that’s the only way,” he said, seeming to hold back his tears.
