Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19, making NBA suspends season

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced Wednesday that it is suspending its season until further notice after an Utah Jazz player tested positive for novel coronavirus.

The test result was announced shortly before the tip-off of a game at the Chesapeake Energy Arena between Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The sports league reported that the infected player, center Rudy Gobert, was not present in the arena.

The players were on the floor for warmups but asked to return to their respective locker rooms. After 30 minutes, the game was postponed “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

“The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice,” the league said.

“The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”
